We are almost finished setting up our new space right in the heart of Newcastle CBD and we couldn’t be more excited. We wanted to write a blog this week about the best things about our new store location but the main thing that kept coming up was… Our incredible new neighbours!!
Check out some of the amazingly talented and entertaining small businesses that are within a 2 minute walk from our new store, in their own words…
Our new range of face oils is almost here and I CANNOT wait for you guys to see and use them! The next specialised ingredient I want to talk about is Blue Tansy Oil. Blue tansy, which is actually yellow in colour and was once a wild-harvested Mediterranean plant, is now primarily grown in Morocco. Blue Tansy Flowers are part of the chamomile family (and also known as Moroccan chamomile). The flower was nearly wiped off in the wild as the demand for beauty goods skyrocketed. Despite the fact that supplies are continuously growing nowadays, it remains one among the more expensive essential oils. It can cost more than $100 for a 2-ounce bottle. Tanacetum annuum has yellow flowers. Its thin leaves have a delicate white "hair" on them. The oil's high camphor concentration gives it a pleasant, herbal scent.
We’ve been teasing for the last 6 months that we have some special new products in research and development and we are getting very close to launching them! We have a line of face oils and serums coming, with one to suit every skin’s desire. So developing face oils has required a lot of research into what we want to use that fits with the Scrubba Body ethos as well as being super effective with clinically proven results. We’ve learnt a lot during this journey and even me, who follows skin care news like a religion, has delved deep into new ingredients I’ve not heard of. Starting with Watermelon Seed Oil. It comes from, you guessed it, a watermelon seeds! Watermelon seed oil is a fine, light oil that absorbs quickly, and penetrates deeply into skin. It contains a multitude of nutrients that are incredibly beneficial for skin, health, and beauty, including linoleic and oleic acid, omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, Vitamin A, B, and E, and a host of minerals, including magnesium, iron, copper, and potassium.
The Makers & Shakers is Australia's premier mid-sized makers market, held in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra. The event features a curated line up of both established and emerging creatives, and offers shoppers the very best in handmade: from beautiful homewares, stunning lifestyle products to delicious food. The Makers & Shakers Market is a fun day out for people who appreciate where things come from, how things are made and who made them.
Next Saturday, 30th April, Scrubba Body is heading down to Canberra for the Handmade Markets! It's been a long time since we've been able to make it down to be there in person (they also have online markets), and we are SOOOOO EXCITED! SO what are the Handmade Markets? Julie Nichols organised the first Handmade Market in 2008, which feels like a lifetime ago today. There were some fantastic marketplaces in Canberra, but none that specifically catered to handmade designers. Julie organised the inaugural market with an emphasis on local designers and only 35 stalls, despite having very little money but a strong business plan and vision. Thousands of people attended, making the Handmade Market a huge success.
Why do we use Macadamia oil in so many of our products?
Mostly because of Squalene. If you’re like me and are a little obsessed with skin care products especially natural skin care, you’ve heard of Squalene. Used as a stand alone serum or blended with other hydrating or moisturising ingredients, Squalene is a big part of most people’s skin care routine. Whether they know it or not. SO what actually is it?
