Note: Prepare to get your hands a little dirty, and make sure you wear clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting a bit messy (aprons will be provided).

What to expect:

In this session, our experienced candle makers will teach you how to make your own candles. By producing your own soy candles with fragrance oils that have been created especially for safe candle making, you'll have a solid understanding of the entire process.

Have fun working as an artisan in our Newcastle studio and make the ideal present for a loved one or yourself. This practical session is perfect for beginners who want to learn the basics of candle making.

What You’ll Learn:

• Understand the basics of candle making
• Use tools and equipment to create candles
• Create beautiful candles using colours and fragrances specifically for candle making.
• Make your own hand-poured candles, including two container candles, one soy melt and one soy wax candle
• Different types of waxes and their uses
• Wicks, fragrances and pigments
• Candle care and safety
• Equipment and tools

What You’ll Make (to take home with you)

• 2 x Large jar candles
• 2 x Travel tin candles

Presenter: Leah Poi

Leah is a local interdisciplinary artist. Her work has been exhibited in Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter and is in private collections nationwide and in Aotearoa (New Zealand).
She has over 10 years experience leading a variety of creative Workshops in Newcastle and the Hunter Region. 

* Candle making is delicate business and candles need to be left to sit for awhile after being poured, in order to set. Candles can be collected the day after the workshop, or during our regular store trading hours throughout the week.
